Secretary for Youth Affairs in the office of Deputy President William Ruto Mr Antony Kibagendi, has been accused of misusing the term 'youth' for selfish gains at the expense of youthful population from Abagusii community.
In a past interview, Mr Kibagendi admitted getting Sh3 million when he helped visitors from outside the country to get access to the then Vice President Kalonzo Musyoka.
"I made Sh3 million when I helped some visitors see Kalonzo Musyoka. They had stayed in the country for two weeks without seeing him. When I found them, I told them I could do it within hours. I delivered and just like that, I got Sh3 million," he said.
After failing to capture Kitutu Chache South seat in 2017 on Jubilee ticket, Kibagendi would be appointed to the office of DP William Ruto to head matters youths.
But the elevation has not come without some prices to pay. A section of US based activist from Abagusii community, accuse the youthful politician of misusing youths from the region.
"People like Kibagendi are conmen who should not be given space to thrive. He has severally admitted that he's a conman. The youth summit in Kisii failed to materialise after they mismanaged state resources," claimed Samuel Okemwa, an activist.
In 2018, Kibagendi was accused of colluding with comedian Walter Mong'are to mismanage money meant for Youth Summit that brought together young people from Kisii and Nyamira Counties.
Over the weekend, Kibagendi's name was once again dragged to below average Gusii Sevens, with some youths accusing him of squandering money meant for players and referees.
But despite the allegations, he remains an important player in DP Ruto's camp. He ditched ODM party days to 2017 polls, accusing the Orange Democratic party of mismanaging internal polls.
