Outgoing Chief of Defense Forces General Samson Mwathethe has instructed all service commanders to ensure soldiers register for Huduma Namba within the stipulated period.
At Department of Defense headquarters on Monday, Mwathethe defended the ongoing digital listing of people, insisting that it will improve security besides helping government to do proper planning for her citizens.
During the event, Mwathethe said at least 63 officers were trained on the registration, adding that they will ensure all soldiers are registered within the 45 days ultimatum issued by government.
“I acknowledge that some service personnel have already acquired Huduma Namba through the set up Huduma Centres and Chiefs’ offices countrywide. I wish to however, inform you that due to the KDF unique requirements, the Government has made considerations for military personnel to be registered within Barracks/Bases in Nairobi, while Military Barracks/Bases outside Nairobi will be registered by the Sub-Counties' registration teams appropriately,” said the CDF.
He added: "I have instructed all the Service Commanders to ensure no one is left out. This is an important government exercise which must be done. By the end of the period issued, all soldiers will be in the system."
KDF constitutes of three Service Commanders namely the Kenya Army chief, Kenya Air Force Commander and the Navy Commander. They are all based at DoD headquarters in Nairobi. General Samson Mwathethe is s naval officer.
On Wednesday, Mwathethe's term will come to an end after serving his single term of 4 years in compliance to Tonje Rules. According to the rules, the CDF retires at the age of 64 or when he serves his four years term.
The exit would usher in Lt General Robert Kibochi given that he's currently the senior most Army officer by rank. The next CDF must come from the Kenya Army wing thus the likelihood of Kibochi taking over.
