Residents of Mwembe estate in Kisii County were on Monday left in a shock after a middle-aged man hanged himself for being unable to clear his two-month rent arrears.
According to some of his fellow tenants, the man has been having frequent quarrels with his landlord that at some point led to the closure of his house.
"The man didn't close his door and the lights were on when he committed suicide and we realized his body was hanging later in the evening as we would see into his single roomed house," said Elkanah Monyenye, a neighbour
Confirming the incident, area Chief Edward Onyisa said that the man left a note on his table claiming that the landlord had pushed him to the limit hence leading to his act.
"Am currently aware that the man identified as Christopher Onchwari had not paid his house rent for the last three months and he was under pressure from the landlord to do so," said Onyisa.
The chief further said that police from Kisii central had already taken the matter into the record and they're currently investigating on the further reasons that led to the act.
The body of the man has been taken to Kisii Referral Hospital morgue for further examination.
The chief, however, called upon locals to ensure that they seek guidance and cancelling when distressed instead of taking such actions.
The landlord could not be reached on call to give his comments.
