A section of women in Kilifi County have vowed to ensure more women are elected to various political posts in the 2022 elections.
Led by Malindi MP Aisha Jumwa, they vowed to come up with strategies that will enable them occupy many in the general elections, including forgetting their political differences and forging a united front to boost their bargaining power.
Speaking during the launch of Kilifi Mums Women Group on Friday, Jumwa said she will ensure women candidates are field in every elective position from the MCA to the governor post.
"I will personally sponsor ten candidates for the position of Member of County Assembly come 2022 elections. Under-representation of women elective positions has witnessed marginalization. We need more women candidates to increase our number in elective positions," she said.
Jumwa who now supports Deputy President William Ruto despite being elected through opposition's ODM, said women have been tested and proven capable of doing better.
"I do not see why we should not have them in the areas where decisions are made."
Kilifi Mums Women group of over 10,000 women from the seven Sub-counties in Kilifi County including Kaloleni, Rabai, Kilifi South, Kilifi North, Malindi Magarini, and Ganze.
The Coordinator of the group Naomi Cidi said the group aims to empower women economically, politically and revamp their social lives.
