There’s no doubt that Eddy Oketch, the Federal Party of Kenya (FPK) candidate in the Migori County senatorial by-election put up a spirited fight to become the county’s third senator.
At the end of it all, he did not manage as he lost to Orange Democratic Movement candidate George Ochillo Ayacko.
Ayacko garnered 85, 234 votes to become the third Migori County Senator, after the late Ben Oluoch Okello and Wilfred Machage.
Last year, the FPK candidate vied for the senatorial seat, but lost to ODM’s Okello.
The lingering question now is what next for Eddy Oketch? The 27-year-old has a bright political future ahead of him.
The fact that he garnered over 60, 000 votes in the just concluded by-election means he has supporters all over the county.
Going forward, the youthful politician should jump ship and join the ODM party ahead of the 2022 general elections.
ODM is the popular party in the region, and vying on its ticket will grant him a win in 2022 after falling short in 2017, and 2018 respectively.
Despite being elected Senator, Ayacko is expected to vie for the Migori gubernatorial seat in 2022 in a bid to succeed Okoth Obado.
