The decision by ODM Secretary General Edwin Sifuna to gently walk out of stage on Friday after an interruption by Malindi MP Aisha Jumwa was 'best' at that time given the circumstances, Raila Junior has said.
At the burial of Benjamin Kingi, Jumwa forced Sifuna out of the podium, accusing him of politicking at the funeral.
“Mr SG, kindly refrain from politics out of respect for the dead. We are not here for ODM politics but to condole with the bereaved," said Jumwa.
“We shall not allow this, respect the Mijikenda. Find another platform and speak about issues relating to ODM. We are here to mourn the dead and not engage in politics,” she added.
Jumwa, who was elected on an ODM Party ticket, was expelled from the Orange party over her close ties with Deputy President William Ruto. She risks facing a by-election, just over 38 months to the 2022 polls.
Raila Junior, the son to ODM leader Raila Odinga, has lauded Sifuna from restraining himself during the encounter, noting that such actions should be emulated.
"Edwin Sifuna you did well by avoiding and ignoring that type of intimidation directed your way in a funeral in Malindi, that's the way to go. I must commend you for your bravery, congratulations," Raila Junior wrote on Twitter.
Mr Sifuna was explaining the process of removal of members from the party before having the microphone snatched from him. He has since said 'his culture does not allow men to argue with women'.
