Former Archbishop Emeritus John Njenga of Mombasa is dead.
The retired archbishop died at Mater Hospital, Nairobi aged 90 following a short illness.
Archbishop of Mombasa, Most Rev. Martin Kivuva confirmed Njenga's death, saying: "Dear brothers and sisters, it is with humble submission to divine will that I wish to inform you of the demise of our beloved Archbishop Emeritus John Njenga. He went to the Lord today, Sunday 4 November at 11:45 hrs."
Emeritus John Njenga was ordained as priest at Kibosho Major Seminary in Tanzania in 1957, and was later ordained as the Bishop of Eldoret in 1970.
In 1988, he was ordained the Bishop of Mombasa, and later an Archbishop two years later.
"He will be remembered for his passion and immense contribution to the development of education in Kenya. Plans for the funeral of Archbishop Njenga will be communicated at a later date," Kivuva said.
