Politicians eyeing the Luo Nyanza kingpin seat might have to wait longer if opposition leader Raila Odinga's latest actions are anything to go by.
People considered his possible successors in the vote-rich region include Siaya Senator James Orengo, Kisumu Governor Anyang Nyongo and Raila's eldest daughter Rosemary Odinga.
However, the former Premier still seems unwilling to release the seat thanks to his latest moves that have seen him bounce back after his loss in the 2017 presidential race.
The latter is once again the topic of discussion with regards to the 2022 presidential race.
This is courtesy of his ability to once again land near President Uhuru Kenyatta, making him a possible contestant and a frontrunner in the race.
And obviously, he is not expected to endorse another person for the slot as he will need the region to ascend to the seat and its backing and support once he makes it after his fifth bid.
Also, his apparent warming up for another bid automatically makes it hard for another person to take over.
Raila is therefore silently telling Nyanza leaders eyeing his seat that they do not stand a chance, at least not now.
This would worsen in the instance that Raila wins the seat as he will most likely seek to retain the region close as he seeks to secure a second term, as is common among politicians.
Raila has also been unwilling to begin grooming another person.
This is proof that he has no plans of stepping aside any time soon, another way of telling his possible successors that they will have to stay away for.
