As part of improving living standards of touts famously known as Manamba, Michuki rules stipulates that they will no longer be paid daily.
Traditionally, Matatu touts are paid after a long day in work and the payment depends on what their employers think is appropriate.
Nyamira Matatu chairman Douglas Ratemo says the move will allow them to make fundamental savings that will help them survive in harsh economic environment.
"I am aware that drivers and conductors will be paid monthly. This helps them to make savings and the rule is pretty welcome.
"Personally, I will embrace the move because it will minimise wastage and help me plan well. We shall ensure that this is implemented to the latter," he said in an interview.
But for them to be accomodated on the roads, the rules stipulate, they must put on brown uniforms for easy identification.
The rules were championed by former powerful minister in Mwai Kibaki government Mr John Michuki, a long time legislator of Kangema constituency in Central Kenya.
Passengers who break the law will have to pay an instant fine of Sh500 failure to which they risk seven days imprisonment.
