Political analyst Martin Andati has identified one of opposition leader Raila Odinga's weaknesses that could make him lose to William Ruto in the 2022 presidential race.
Speaking on 'Bunge la Maisha' on Radio Maisha on Monday, Andati observed that Raila could suffer from his inability to multitask and address numerous matters at the same time.
He noted that the DP, on the other hand, seems to have mastered the art and doing very well, ahead of their possible clash in the 2022 presidential race.
He gave an example of the March 9 handshake between Raila and Uhuru, which seems to have taken Raila's full attention as things continue to worsen in his ODM party, as was witnessed in the recent Ugenya and Embakasi by-elections.
"Shida ya Raila ni eti hajui kumultitask na akishika kitu kimoja anasahau zingine zote, wakati mwingine hata anasahau watu wake aliokuwa nao mwanzo.
(Raila's main weakness is that he concentrates all his attention on a single issue and at times forgets everything and everyone else.)," he said.
He said that Ruto, on the other hand, is playing his constitutional role, campaigning, fighting his critics and even cleverly played a role in ODM's losses in the polls.
Andati said that though the DP could have had a very small effect in the by-elections, he still managed to take the credit, ran away with it.
The commentator pointed out that Ruto is now being seen as the man of the moment yet no Jubilee Party was contesting.
"Msaada wa Ruto kwa wale washindi haukufika hata asilimia tano, japo ni kweli mkono wake ulikuwa pale. Hata hivyo, anaonekana ndiye mshindi.
(He indeed played a role in the elections, though less than five per cent, but is now taking all the credit)," he noted.
Andati, a one time associate of Raila during his Prime Ministerial tenure, observed that should things remain as they are, Raila would have it hard securing the presidency.
