Makueni MP Daniel Maanzo has castigated the church for accepting 'dirty' money from politicians and government officials accused of corruption.
During an interview in a local TV on Friday, Maanzo said the church has lost its moral voice in pursuit of material properties.
"The church should desist from taking 'stolen' money from politicians. Stop inviting politicians for fundraising as the guest of honors, instead let them bring their offerings just like the church members," Maanzo said.
Maanzo said due to that, the church has kept silence about graft in the country since the clergy can't point fingers at people who helped them build the church.
"And you are wondering why the church is silent at this time when the graft is being unearthed in the country day and night. How would they dare accuse people who bought the church leader his vehicle or even contributed a lump sum amount of money to build the church," Maanzo said.
He said the clergy accepts the offerings, contributions from these people without even questioning where the money came from.
Maanzo said the church should check where it went wrong and correct its ways by cutting clergies 'appetites' for material properties.
He said these lumpsum contributions from politicians during harambees have caused enmity and fights in the church.
Maanzo said after contributing to churches, politicians have been allowed to talk 'dirty' in pulpits without being questioned just because they dug deep into their pockets.
"It's a shame that the clergy has allowed the politicians to abuse each other and talk dirty and politics while in the church as the congregation cheers," Maanzo added.
He said every institution including the church should be steadfast in condemning any form of corruption.
