Back to school means more to opportunistic business operators than scholars.

It is a peak season,  where business flourishes with the hard earned money and loans from parents.

Here are beneficiaries of back to school:

Transport operators

Matatu operators and bodaboda guys turn the season into a money-making venture.

"It's our time to eat. If you can't afford the prices now,  go get your own car! "

They brag as they hike prices to even the regular clients.

"Hii ni time yetu kujilipa hasara!"

They brag as if you owe them anything!  And to make it worse,  if you are not keen,  overloading and over speeding are the rewards for your excess cash!

This added to the overlapping, leads to traffic jams and oh, risky rides.

Shoe sellers

This is another lot. Black and all leather shoes that are blocked find new prices at this time. Whether new or second hand,  the value shoots up.

They claim uniqueness and shortage, which are the words to cover the high demand and desire to milk the innocent buyers!

Bags and white shirts

This team enjoys the best. School bags are any other bag as long as you're buying at that time. As the aforementioned,  the prices shift like a knee-jerk. White shirts are the best of deals, especially when it's about girls. They need them as much as the sellers need their money!

Unrelated advertising

For sanitary pads, stationery, hygiene and cosmetics we can stomach the promotional messages,  however,  you'll be shocked to spot a 'back to school offer on teddy bears and bikes!  You're left wondering where the schools are offering riding courses! Sadly as soon as the days are done,  the price hiking teams turn into something close to begging,  for the supply is higher than demand!

Advice

We can shop prior to the back to school days,  save the few dimes but woe to us,  transportation is inevitable, we're glued to the awful lifestyle!
