Deputy President William Ruto has suffered a major blow after one of his foot soldiers decamped and joined Amani National Coalition (ANC) Musalia Mudavadi’s backers ahead of the 2022 presidential race.
Embattled Nairobi Speaker Betarice Elachi, one of Ruto’s allies, shocked many over the weekend when she rooted for Musalia’s presidency.
Speaking during the burial of Lugari MP Ayub Savula daughter, Joanne Chepchirchir at Manyonyi village, Elachi said the Western region must rally behind Mudavadi.
“As a community, 2019 is a year of reflection and focus, we must start planning strategically so that our people benefits from the resources sharing formula,” said Elachi.
Elachi added that the region should also be scheming on how to take over power in post-Uhuru politics.
“We must start working with President Uhuru Kenyatta to ensure our people are in government and better our chances of getting power,” she said.
The change of tune by the former Dagoreti South Jubilee aspirant has left tongues wagging.
Political analyst Kimeu Musyoka said leaders are retreating to tribal cocoons as President Uhuru’s succession game plan takes shape.
