Kitui Governor Charity Ngilu has begged Kitui nurses to call off the planned Monday strike.
Ngilu wants the nurses to halt the strike, saying their demand for increased allowances is being addressed.
Speaking at Kyetune primary school in Kitui South on Saturday, Ngilu said patients will suffer if nurses go on with the strike.
Governor Ngilu said that her administration has not refused to increase nurses allowances.
"The money for the allowances has been set aside and what we are waiting for is the approval from the Salaries and Remuneration Commissions (SRC),"Ngilu said.
The NARC governor urged nurses to be humane and call off the strike.
She said her government is focused on providing quality healthcare to the residents.
Over 700 nurses in Kitui have vowed to down their tools starting Monday next week.
The nurses claim that Ngilu's administration has refused to increase their service and uniform allowances.
The medics through the Kenya National Union of Nurses (KNUN)Kitui branch, Secretary General Newton Kimanzi further accuses Ngilu's administration of neglecting them.
"We are asking relatives and next of kin of patients admitted in all level 3 and 5 hospitals to make arrangements and transfer there patients elsewhere,” Mr Kimanzi said on Tuesday.
