Perceived cold relationship among his colleagues precipitation Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang'i's decision to almost quit from government, it has emerged.

On Wednesday, it took the intervention from President Uhuru Kenyatta to dissuade the powerful minister from quitting public service.

A source privy to the ministers undertakings said that he was concerned with persistent 'maligning' of his name by colleagues and some unamed government operatives.

"His name has featured in quite a number of corruption scandals and he was quite concerned about it.

"In fact, even his colleagues seemed to implicate him just because he never condones some demands from them," said the source.

Cabinet Secretar Amina Mohammed (Education) and Farida Karoney (Lands) contradicted Matiang'i over the controversial Sh3.2 billion Ruaraka land when they appeared before Senate PAC.

In what seems to be unending intrigues within the cabinet, Matiang'i also differed with EAC minister Adan Mohammed then at the industrialization docket over mercury sugar.

This comes at the time local media reported a possible cabinet reshuffle by President Uhuru Kenyatta in a week's time.

Back in Nyamira, a section of leaders have come into the defense of the minister, saying that there is a conspiracy to antagonize him.

"We are aware of a plot to implicate him just for political benefits. We shall fight back," Borabu MP Ben Momanyi said on Friday.
