Nakuru Senator Susan Kihika has hit out at the government following the withdrawal of her security detail.
In a tweet on Sunday, Kihika argued the move is a form of intimidation and political witchhunt which was witnessed only in the dark days of Kenya's history.
"Even a fool would see through this charade. The withdrawal of our security is meant to intimidate us. It’s political and takes us back to the dark past of our Nation's history," read her tweet in part.
She noted that no amount of intimidation will cause them to withdraw their support for Deputy President William Ruto's 2022 presidential bid.
"Some public officers think you can coerce us into conforming to their stop Ruto Movement by taking away our security," she added.
The security details of politicians allied to DP Ruto were last week withdrawn, a move the leaders have termed political.
Politicians affected by the move include Kiambu Governor Ferdinand Waititu, Senator Kihika, MPs Kimani Ichungwa (Kikuyu) Alice Wahome (Kandara) and Kimani Ngunjiri (Bahati).
The Senate majority whip linked the withdrawal of their security detail to Cotu Secretary General Francis Atwoli's remarks that Ruto will not be on the ballot in 2022 and wondered whether their lives could be in danger.
"Atwoli said he is 100% sure Ruto won't be on the ballot and we recall Hon Muchai’s brutal murder, could this have any bearing with our security being withdrawn and the confidence that Ruto will not be on the ballot? Could our lives be in danger? Could we be targeted as a warning shot to Ruto?" she added.
