Hours before President Uhuru Kenyatta saved him from an impending ouster, Jubilee leaders had settled for two possible replacements for Senate Majority Leader Kipchumba Murkomen.
Jubilee Party National Management Committee, reports the Standard, had convened a meeting on Saturday from 10am where Murkomen's removal was agreed.
Those fronted were Uasin Gishi Senator Margaret Kamar and her Bomet counterpart Christopher Lang'at.
"The feeling in circles of power is that from Senate Majority Leader's comments, his spirit was no longer in government," said an MP who attended the meeting.
Murkomen, a close ally of President Uhuru Kenyatta, has been leading charm offensive against the government over the ongoing Mau Forest evictions.
"Mr. President, I want you to come to Mau and declare your stand. We want to know whether you are with the county commissioner or people," he dared Uhuru.
But even after his fate was sealed, Uhuru is said to have prevailed upon the committee against Murkomen's ouster.
Notably, the evictions were ordered by Deputy President William Ruto, who had toured Narok County in June this year.
