18-year-old Rooney Okoth Ogolla reportedly consumed a pesticide called Triatix at their home in Kowano Village on Tuesday night after sitting day one examinations.

He was rushed to the Kisii Referral Hospital in critical condition after reportedly phoning his fellow candidate and notifying him that he had poisoned himself.

Confirming the incident, Homabay County Police Commander Marius Tum noted that the pupil is in critical condition.

The police boss added that Rooney will miss the remaining examinations.

According to a report on Citizen Digital, the area chief James Omino noted that the pupil in question had a habit of escaping from home and skipping school, and is suspected to have sneaked into a room he shares with his brother before consuming the poison.
