Senators from the 47 counties together with the 20 nominated ones will all be converging at the Uasin Gishu County Assembly where they will hold their plenary sessions and committee meetings like they do at the Senate in Nairobi.

Apart from the normal business of the Senate, the 67 senators will also use the ‘Senate Mashinani’ to experience, first hand, how devolution has been faring on in Uasin Gishu.

Preparations for hosting the Senators are at an advanced stage with the county leadership saying they are ready for the historical event.

According to Governor Jackson Mandago, the Senate visit will be crucial as devolution continues to face some challenges.

He says Senators, being protectors of devolution, should be told of all the challenges that have hindered service delivery.

“We must have serious, credible and sensible presentations of issues that need to be re-looked at under the spirit of devolution,” said Mandago during a planning meeting at the county assembly.

Senator Prof. Margret Kamar on her part said they will be holding sessions with committees of county assembly pointing out that oversight and budget committees will need to prepare their presentations as they are crucial in framing funds allocation.

The ‘Senate Mashinani’ is scheduled in Eldoret from September 24-28 and the public will be allowed to follow plenary proceedings from the County Assembly's public gallery.
