Deputy President William Ruto has launched a scathing veiled attack on opposition leader Raila Odinga and proponents of a constitutional referendum.
In a new twist, the DP has again opposed the move despite having said he has no problem with a referendum a week ago in Tharaka Nithi.
Speaking in Western on Friday, Ruto said those pushing for a constitutional change are idlers.
“We need to focus on service delivery to the people. This ongoing rhetoric is idle talk and it should not be allowed to continue. The public is waiting for improved services,” the DP said.
ODM leader Raila Odinga has been the face of those calling for law changes to address some of the issues bedeviling the country.
“The referendum will be the best thing for Kenyans as they will have the opportunity to address some of the long-running problems that have been facing them,” Raila said during the opening of Unaitas bank in Kisumu.
Ruto’s renewed attacks against the plebiscite will leave political pundits tongues wagging as they try to unmask his script.
Cherangany MP Joshua Kutuny had warned the DP against opposing a referendum saying he risks becoming a lone ranger.
