President Uhuru Kenyatta on Thursday hailed Asumbi Girls Secondary School’s teacher, Erick Ademba after he emerged among the top three best teachers in the inaugural African Union Continental Teacher Prize.
In his message, Uhuru said that Ademba has done the nation very proud after bagging the coveted award. He also said that the teacher is a source of inspiration to millions not only in Kenya but also the entire African continent because of the great milestone he has made in life.
“President Uhuru Kenyatta has sent a congratulatory message to Mr Eric Ademba, the Mathematics and Chemistry teacher at Asumbi Girls High School, who emerged among the top three teachers in the inaugural African Union Continental Teacher Prize,” State House tweeted.
Ademba was feted alongside Gladys K, from a school in Uganda and Augusta Lartey-Young Ghana. The winners were presented with certificates and a reward of Sh1 million each for the exemplary performance. Ademba travelled to AU Headquarters in Ethiopia’s capital Addis Ababa where he was given the award alongside other winners.
In his speech, Ademba said he is grateful for bagging the award. He noted that the support the teachers have continued to receive from different governments is worth appreciation.
“It should promote the image of teaching; the teaching fraternity will be able to be promoted because this can enable other teachers within Africa to view teaching differently,” he said.
He also asked different stakeholders to address the endless challenges teachers and learners face while in the pursuit of knowledge.
