Just days after Kibera demolitions became a trend on social media for targetting the wealthy, the tornado of house destruction has now swept from the other end, this time coming for the well-to-do. 

Nairobians woke up Wednesday morning to the news of a major demolition at Southend Mall. 

The mall is owned by former Bobasi MP Stephen Manoti. 

The demolitions are a move by the National Environment Management Authority (Nema) after several years of public uproar.

Nema's point is that the mall stands at the junction of Mbagathi Way and Langata Road and that it encroaches Ngong River. 

The environmental authority is currently in heightened efforts to reclaim riparian land

Java House, Kileleshwa together with the Shell Petrol Station were on Monday demolished for encroaching Nairobi River.
