Antubariku Sub-Location administrator Kennedy Karuwa Bariu was charged before the Meru High Court alongside Salessio Galgalo, an Administration Police (AP) officer, with assaulting and killing Erick Mwenda.

The prosecution told resident Judge Alfred Mabeya that the duo allegedly committed the crime on June 6, 2018.

The duo's application to prevent the court from charging them with murder was thrown out by Justice Ann Ong'injo on Wednesday.

Through their lawyer Kioroga Mugambi, the two denied the allegations, claiming that they were not at the scene at the time of the death, with Bariu claiming that the youngster died of natural causes.

Erick Mwenda was arrested for allegedly stealing Sh20, 000.

The two suspects were each released on a Sh300,000 cash bail, with an option of a Sh500,000 bond with surety.

Justice Mabeya also ordered the duo be issued with all the statements recorded by civilian witnesses after they accused the prosecution of blocking their access to important documents relating to the case.
