The High Court in Nairobi will today start hearing a case where Joseph Irungu alias Jowie and TV journalist Jackie Maribe are charged with the murder of slain businesswoman Monica Kimani.
Justice James Wakiaga is presiding over the trial at the Milimani Law Courts.
The Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) Noordin Haji has lined up 32 witnesses in the case.
Haji says he has water tight evidence to link Jowie and Maribe to the gruesome murder.
Last week, Senior Assistant Director of Public Prosecutions (SADPP) Catherine Mwaniki told the court that all witnesses in the case are under protection.
Ms Mwaniki told trial Judge that out of the 32 witnesses , four are expert witnesses, noting that there is watertight evidence to prosecute the case
“We have secured watertight evidence including photographs and digital records to prove the case once the trial starts,” she said.
Jowie and Maribe pleaded not guilty to the murder charge which they allegedly committed on September 19, 2018, at Lamuria Apartments in Nairobi’s Kilimani area.
Maribe is out on a Sh1 Million bail.
While granting Marine bail, the Court ordered her not to read news until the case is heard and determined.
On the other hand, Jowie’s second application to be released on bail was rejected last week by the trial Judge.
Justice Wakiaga ruled that Jowie's application lacked merit.
