Following his decision to reject Finance Bill, 2018, President Uhuru Kenyatta will on Friday address the nation, State House has confirmed.

Already, upon the request of the president, Speaker Justin Muturi has recalled parliament for a special sitting on Tuesday.

In her Twitter, spokesperson Kanze Dena said the president will clarify the matter to Kenyans.

"Following consultation with the leadership of the National Assembly on the 16 per cent Value Added Tax (VAT) on all petroleum products, President Uhuru Kenyatta will tomorrow Friday, 14th September 2018, address the Nation.Kanze Dena,Spokesperson," read the message.

In a special Gazette notice, Muturi asked MPs to report to parliament on Tuesday.

Senate Majority Leader Kipchumba Murkomen said the rejection of the Bill will now allow MPs to find the best solution to controversial 16 per cent VAT on petroleum products.

"It’s Official- The President presents his reservations to the Finance Bill 2018. We must work together to find solutions & for the best interest of country."

MPs may decide to side with the president or vote in numbers to compel the president to sign the bill.
