Business temporarily came to a standstill in Parliament on Thursday after Nairobi Woman Representative, Esther Passaris, walked into the chambers with a big backpack.
The MPs, led by the Majority Leader Aden Duale, raised concern over the size of the bag. Duale asked Speaker Justin Muturi to find out how Passaris made it into parliament with the kit. He wondered whether the MPs were safe.
“Passaris is carrying a ransack, a big bag; I do not know how the Sergeant-at-Arms allowed her in. We are not safe here, Mr. Speaker; she needs to show that bag?" Duale inquired.
Muturi was compelled to ask the lawmaker to explain why she had decided to carry the big bag to the house. The women said that she took the bag to the house because he had a back problem following the advice from her medical doctor.
She also questioned why Duale keeps asking everything she does on the floor of the house.National Assembly Speaker Justin Muturi asked Passaris to explain why she carried such a humongous bag to parliament.
“I have a problem with my back, a disk slipped, and my medical doctor told me to balance the weight. That is why I am using a backpack and not a handbag, “she explained.
