On Sunday, September 30th, a new SportPesa mega jackpot winner was announced by the betting company. The man predicted correctly all the 17 games to win a whopping Sh208 million.
Cosmas Korir, who contested for a parliamentary seat in the August 8, 2017 elections won a total of Sh208,733,619. However, Mr. Korir will walk home with less money than he won due to this two factors.
1. Finance Bill 2018 tax
According to the Finance Bill 2018 which was last month signed into law by President Uhuru Kenyatta, all betting wins will be charged a tax of 20%.
Simple math will show you that Mr. Korir will walk home with less than Sh46 million which he will be taxed by the government.
2. Sharing with other two friends
Unlike other mega jackpot winners, Samuel Abisai who won Sh221 million and Gordon Ogada who won Sh230 million, Mr. Korir will again share the remaining amount with his two friends who helped him place the winning bet.
Mr. Korir revealed that they had promised to share any amount won with his two friends and that’s what he will exactly do.
The three have been betting together for a while without giving up.
