On Thursday, Makueni Governor Kivutha Kibwana urged Mr Odinga to consider having second Handshake generation with DP Ruto, to quell their recent rivalry.

"There is need for him to consider having second generation handshake. This is becoming too much. We need peace and the two should now meet," he said in Kirinyaga.

Lately, the two politicians have intensified onslaught against each other with Ruto accusing Raila of unfairly dragging him to graft related scandals.

Speaking at Kameme FM on Thursday, Mr Odinga however insisted the handshake was only between him and Kenyatta, adding that the two were only facilitated by counsels of good will.

"If we didn’t do something, this could have been worse than 2007. That’s the reason for the handshake, to cool tempers by bringing people together. We agreed to bury our differences and resolved that if we speak differently, it will not solve the issues.”

“Counsels of goodwill saw reason and facilitated the dialogue between us. We came together to talk without anyone else being part of the meeting. We took a journey down memory lane and realised we were where the colonialist, who called us bloody Afrikaans, had put us,” he recounted.

Mr Odinga also vowed that the constitutional changes will go on as planned, adding that the Building Bridges Initiative will complete it's hearings across the country soon.

So thorny has been the relationship between the duo that Ruto has vowed to oppose any change of governance structure in the proposed referendum.
