Education Cabinet Secretary, Fred Matiang'i on Wednesday November 15,issued a directive barring all public universities from hiring staff on permanent and pensionable terms.Speaking at a forum at the Kenya School of Monetary Studies, the Cs accused the politicians of converting learning institutions into employment hubs by compelling the administration to offer jobs for people of their choice.Dr.Matiang'i further instructed that all financial Master's in all public universities to be handled by the funding board."The university funding board will be charged with regulating all public universities’ financial affairs," stated Matiang'i.Matiang'i's new directive comes amid the lecturers' strike that has hit its third week.The dons are demanding implantation of a collective bargaining agreement (CBA) which they signed with the government in 2013.Salary increment and allowance packages were among demands made by the bold lecturers who took to the streets paralysing learning in over 31 public universities since November 1.Caption: Education Cabinet Secretary Dr Fred Matiang'i (photo|the Star)
