The mother of slain Rongo University student Sharon Otieno, Melida Auma now claims that Migori Governor Okoth Obado wanted her daughter dead.
Auma says that Sharon lived in fear after she became pregnant for Obado.
Speaking to journalists at Milimani Law Courts on Wednesday, Auma said that her daughter was all the time worried about her safety.
She said that Sharon always received calls from unknown people who she claims sometimes threatened her.
Auma further claimed that Obado and Sharon's love affair took a different direction when she became pregnant for the Migori governor.
She stated that Obado was concerned about his reputation and wanted the pregnancy terminated, an idea Sharon was against.
“The governor never wanted the pregnancy and was piling pressure on Sharon to abort the baby,” the emotional Auma said on Wednesday.
Auma further alleged that Governor Obado often used his Personal Assistant (PA) Michael Oyamo as the contact person between him and Sharon.
The emotional Auma has refuted claims that her daughter was a prostitute.
“People should live me alone to mourn my daughter because I am the mother and I know how I raised Sharon up,” she said.
Governor Obado and Oyamo have both been charged with killing Sharon Otieno.
On Monday, Obado pleaded not guilty to the murder charge.
The Migori governor is currently remanded at the Nairobi Industrial Area Remand pending his bail application on Thursday at 2 PM.
