Deputy President William Ruto on Monday said that he is open-minded on whether the Building Bridges Initiative (BBI) report will be subjected to the parliamentary implementation or referendum.
DP Ruto who was speaking during the Mumboha Hustlers Cup, Luanda in Vihiga county, pointed out that the priority is the comfortability of Kenyans with the report.
“We have no problem with BBI being subjected to a referendum or through Parliament. So long as the people are comfortable we will move forward,” he stated as quoted by The Star.
The Deputy President, however, insisted that Kenyans should be allowed to decide the fate of the report.
“If they want parliamentary system, presidential system or whatever name it will be called, so long as the people decide, it is fine,” he noted.
Reports indicate that DP Ruto had sensed a plan by his rivals to set him up on the BBI report. This allegedly influenced his stand on the report.
According to the DP, he is in full support of the report especially on issues that promote the welfare of the people.
He, however, warned that BBI should not make Kenyans lose focus transforming Kenya.
“Let BBI not divert us from our primary work of transforming Kenya, and making the people more economically empowered,” he said as quoted by the Star.
