Drama ensued at the Homabay County Assembly speaker’s office on Thursday morning after unknown people allegedly sprayed pesticides in the office.
The ‘goons’ are suspected to have broken into the office on Wednesday night.
Speaker Elizabeth Ayoo reported to work on Thursday morning as usual, only to find her office broken into, sprayed with livestock pesticides, and furniture broken.
Police officers who went to the office for forensic analysis indicated that the spray used was Triatix.
Triatix is majorly used in controlling pests in livestock, more so ticks.
“The assembly premises is surrounded by guards and police officers. I do not know why they don’t report destruction cases within the House,” said Speaker Ayoo.
The Speaker has been going through a difficult time since mid October, when a section of Members of the County Assembly (MCAs) in Homabay County attacked her for allegedly changing a report from ODM party.
The MCAs then passed a motion to remove her from office, but she filed a case at the Kisumu Labour Court disputing her removal from office.
The court ordered that she be allowed back into office.
Since then, she has been facing strong opposition from a section of MCAs who do not want her to take charge of assembly proceedings.
