To further expand the now famous Nairobi Beautification Programme to areas outside of the city centre, the governor has called on youth groups to apply for the competition and stand to win the cash prizes.

The programme, a personal initiative of Governor Sonko, aims at promoting competition and giving back to the communities willing to participate in and support efforts to keep Nairobi clean.

The county boss has offered prizes of Sh1 million for the winning group, Sh700,000 for the first runners-up, Sh500,000 for the second runners-up and Sh250,000 for the third runners-up.

He said that the cash prizes will come from Sonko and private sponsors, and that county funds will not be touched in this initiative.

The winners of the competition shall be announced and awarded their money by the governor on May 4, 2019, during the Nairobi Clean-Up Day.

Ward-based groups willing to participate will publicly register for the competition.
