On Monday, a list purportedly signed by Mr Tuju named five people who have reportedly expressed desire to run for the seat on a Jubilee ticket.

State House Secretary for Digital Innovation Dennis Itumbi, a close ally of Deputy President William Ruto, was among the first to post the list on his Twitter.

The former Intermilan and Purma midfielder McDonald Mariga, the elder brother to Victor Wanyama, was among those listed as interested candidates. Others were Peter Kinyanjui, Said Ibrahim, Walter Trenk and Doreen Wasike.

In a interview with Pulselive.co.ke, Tuju reportedly dismissed the letter as fake, adding that the signature that was used doesn't not match his.

"It is fake, that is not my signature on the purported letter," the Jubilee Secretary General said.

The Jubilee party also clarified on Twitter that the list was not authentic since it did not emerge from the formal party organs.

"This letter that is making rounds within social media outlets is FAKE. Please note that any communication regarding the Kibra Constituency by-election will be done through the official Party organ," the party said.

Earlier, the party expressed desire to field a candidate, who will face ODM in November 7th by-election. The winner will take over from Ken Okoth, who succumbed to cancer.

“Our analysis and consultations confirm that our Jubilee Party is competitive enough in the forthcoming political contest," he said in a statement on Monday.

He added: "It is noteworthy that the neighbouring Lang’ata Constituency was won by Jubilee party candidate contrary to conventional political analysis.”

Mr Tuju asked those interested to contest to submit their credentials to Jubilee Party Elections Board although he did not reveal the criteria to be used.

“We are therefore giving notice to our members who are interested in contesting the seat on a Jubilee party ticket to forward their applications to the National Elections Board. Details may be obtained from the party’s directorate of elections,” added Mr Tuju.
