Bishop Rashid Nanjira Makokha of the Christian Warrior Prayer Ministries was arrested on Friday.

The cleric was allegedly arrested by a contingent of armed General Service Unit (GSU) Police who raided his home at Luny’anyiro village in Matungu.

The cleric's wife Nancy Kibisu described her husband’s arrest as the wildest occurrence she had ever experienced.

“We were in the house watching the television at around 8.30 pm when we noticed five vehicles entering our compound. We noticed they were police vehicles and my husband, Bishop Rashid went out to meet the visitors but he was met with hostility,” she told narrated.

She claimed that one of the GSU officers allegedly slapped her husband as he inquired why he was being arrested.

According to the cleric's wife, the armed GSU officers searched their house and allegedly harassed their children.

She further claimed that the officers took away her husband’s laptop, four phones, a visitor’s book and the church certificate of registration.

Confirming the cleric's arrest, Matungu OCPD John Matsili said that the Bishop's phone was implicated in a series of alarming information propagated on social media platforms.

“We arrested the Bishop on Friday and the CID officers are interrogating him. If found culpable, he will be taken to court for posting alarming information on a WhatsApp group,” the OCPD confirmed.

The OCPD said that sixteen people have been arrested in connection to the bizarre killings experienced in Matungu recently.

Two weeks ago, detectives arrested former Sports Cabinet Secretary (CS) Rashid  Echesa, Kakamega Senator Cleophas Malala and Matungu MP Justus Murunga over the killings.

The politicians were however released without being arraigned in court.

While visiting the troubled Matungu constituency, Interior Cabinet Secretary (CS) Fred Matang’i and Inspector General of Police (IG) Hillary Mutyambai vowed to end the killings.

The two top government officials warned individuals allegedly fanning the killings, saying that they will be smoked out and action taken against them.
