The gruesome murder of Monica Kimani will continue to grab headlines for the foreseeable future, owing to the suspect in one Jacque Maribe, a prominent journalist and a recipient of the head of state commendation.
Justice for the slain Monica has seemingly taken a back seat as people jostle for space to air their sentiments which is all about Jackie Maribe.
It is as if the media is hell-bent on crucifying Ms Maribe, rather than justice.
Kenyans have picked the cue and some are claiming that Ms Maribe is a victim of love, that she gets justice which I interpret to mean she is innocent, while others are keen on seeing her go to jail, having already judged her as innocent.
When the news of the murder broke out, the headlines had the name of Ms Maribe, which led me to think that she was unfairly being dragged into her boyfriend’s misdeeds.
As the investigations progressed, she became one of the primary suspects.
From that point onwards the case has degenerated into a people versus Maribe kind of case.
The gruesome murder of Monica has taken a back seat and the focus became the journalist.
With the interest of justice in mind, all parties involved in the case should pray for justice on all sides, taking aside their sentiments.
The case involves a barbaric loss of life, for God’s sake.
We should hope that justice prevails and all those responsible dealt with as per the provisions of the law.
