President Uhuru Kenyatta on Friday became the first Kenyan to receive new general firearm license weeks to the kickoff of mass digital registration exercise.
Last year in November, Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang'i appointed Mr Charles Mwongera as chairman Firearm Licensing Board where he briefed the country about the Digital licences.
“We shall put up a new board soon and we shall have a digital register for all firearm holders,” Dr Matiang’i said weeks before appointment of Mwongera.
And the Head of State also seized the opportunity at State House on Friday to apply for a unique Huduma Number, days before the exercise starts officially across the country.
"Today I received my new generation firearm license smart-card and certificate from the Firearms Licensing Board after undergoing the due certification process and obtaining a unique identification number," he wrote.
The minister of interior under Matiang'i embarked on the process of making virtually all government records digital, a move that has equally been subjected to resistance from a section of Kenyans.
Last week, Matiang'i snubbed summons by Senate, insisting that he will not back down in the move to have all Kenyans obtain Huduma Numbers.
