A village in South Mugirango in Moticho ward was last week engulfed by darkness after the Kenya Power disconnected electricity in what they termed as illegal connections. Eburi residents were on Friday up in arms and demanded that the electricity supplier (KPLC) reconnects the power.

They raised their concerns over the act they termed as brutal and demanded to know the reason behind the act.

“We want to know why they (KPLC) cut supply in our village without any notice and fell all the power posts. This implies that the power is not going to be reconnected any time soon. We want to give them one week to reconnect our village failure to which we will all walk to their offices in Kisii town to demand answers, this is a shameful act and we need to know why,” lamented one villager only identified as Mr. Osoro.

Over 30 households were affected.

“I only learnt that my electricity was being disconnected through my parents back in the village while in Nairobi where I had gone for business transactions. I could not apprehend the reason behind it because I acquired the electricity procedurally and have been paying my bills on time. Am in darkness despite the disconnection causing me a lot of loses as some of my electronics in the house blew up”, he said.

However, efforts to reach the regional manager were futile as he was not in office when our team visited him. He said he would address the issue when he returned.

Learners in three schools; Eburi, Ayora and Choma primary schools were also affected as evening and personal studies were discontinued due to lack of light.
