Following the unfortunate Thursday incident where the Wajir Woman Representative was reportedly assaulted by male colleague, questions are now emerging on Aden Duale's earlier remarks that described female legislators as mere 'flower girls'.
With fast emerging concern from women politicians led by the Homa Bay Women Rep Gladys Wanga, the Garissa Township MP should now come clean if his derogatory utterances had any connection with the latest assault case involving Wajir Women Rep Fatuma Gedi.
“We do not want to believe it is by coincidence that the Majority Leader yesterday termed women leaders as endangered species/flower girls and today a woman is assaulted,” MP Wanga questioned.
With this in mind, Women Reps should remain united together during this challenging time and stand in solidarity with their injured colleague, Fatima Gedi.
In the 21st century, it is a big shame that a honourable legislator, elected by a popular vote can get physical over a minor disagreement.
Therefore, as a leader of Majority in the National Assembly, Duale should come clean and condenm the assault both as a father, a husband and a son of a woman.
Failure, the incident might derail progress so far recorded in ending gender-based violence and curbing gender inequality.
