Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) Party leader Raila Odinga was in Kisumu on Saturday during the installation of Philip Anyolo as the new Kisumu Catholic Archdioceses Archbishop.
Odinga alongside Deputy President William Ruto and several other leaders graced the event at the Uzima University College Grounds, as long-serving Zaccheus Okoth handed the reins to Bishop Anyolo.
Known for political sound bites that most often leave his audiences in stitches, the former Prime Minister urged Church leaders not to accept monetary donations from political leaders perceived to be corrupt.
“The church should continue praying for Kenya so that Kenyans can win the war against corruption. The Church should fight corruption by not accepting money tainted by corruption,” he said amid applause and laughter from a section of those present.
Odinga insisted that they came together with President Uhuru Kenyatta via the March 09, 2018 handshake to facilitate peaceful co-existence of all Kenyans.
He reminded Kisumu residents of their journey to Canaan and how they encountered crocodiles on the way.
“We were taking our people to Canaan but on reaching River Jordan, we got crocodiles. That is why I met my brother Uhuru so that we build bridges together to cross River Jordan on our way to Canaan,” he said amid another round of laughter from those present.
