Jubilee nominated senator Millicent Omanga has attacked the government over the recent declaration to hunt down HELB defaulters.
The utterance was made by Education CS Amina Mohamed who said that the government was looking for ways to recover Sh7.2 billion from 74,000 Helb loan defaulters, a move which will be coordinated by HELB and the police.
Taking to her Facebook page, the senator expressed her anger with the way the government was handling the matter of the young unemployed Kenyans who have no income to enable them repay HELB loans.
"The idea of HELB coordinating with the police to hunt down loan defaulters is ill advised, impolitic and injudicious," retorted the senator, adding that the government should consider that the loan defaulters are jobless youths tarmacking without the hope of getting jobs.
"These are jobless youths who've been tarmacking for years without the hope of landing a job," she added.
Omanga further reiterated that there are instances the government writes off tea and coffee farmers loans which should be applied to HELB.
"See, we've instances where loans of tea and coffee farmers have been written off, why not HELB?" quipped the seemingly irritated senator.
