Wambua was elected on a Wiper Party ticket in the August 8, 2017, election.

Born in 1972, Wambua worked at the Standard Media Group as an editor before he joined active politics in 2017.

Wambua says he was driven by the desire and passion to serve Kenyans, especially Kitui residents hence his decision to quit newsroom job for politics.

Wambua holds a Bachelor's of Arts in Education Degree from the Moi University.

He graduated in 1996.

In 1997, Wambua also graduated with a Diploma in Planning and Management from the Catholic University of Eastern Africa.

The senator also holds a Certificate in Mass Communication from Cairo University.

Wambua has been vocal on key issues affecting Kenyans.

He has declared support to amend the 2010 Constitution.

Senator Wambua has, however, denied planning to contest for the Kitui gubernatorial seat in 2022.

Wambua says his focus is on serving and representing Kitui residents in the Senate and will not be dragged into the succession politics.

"My eyes are fixed on working for Kitui people and Kenyans at large, I will not be dragged into 2022 politics," Wambua said.

He addressed the public in Kitui town on Monday.
