Kibwana said he will not let a non-performing leader take over the county’s leadership in 2022 when his term comes to an end.

Speaking when he toured Makindu town on Thursday, the vocal governor stated that he will not retire from politics until he successfully grooms the person to take over from him.

Kibwana said some leaders cannot be trusted with the county’s leadership.

“I will not go anywhere in 2022 until I get a perfect and development oriented leader to take over the county’s leadership,” Kibwana said.

He said Makueni needs a committed and development oriented leader.

Kibwana urged residents not to be fooled by a crop of politicians who are out to fulfill their selfish interests.

Kibwana was first elected in 2013 on a Muungano party ticket.

In 2017 general election, he won his re-election on a Wiper party ticket.

The Makueni county boss has since fallen-out with Wiper party leader Kalonzo Musyoka.

Kibwana’s deputy Adelina Mwau has since declared an interest to succeed him in 2022.

Makueni Senator Mutula Kilonzo Junior, Kibwezi East MP Jessica Mbalu and Makueni MP Daniel Maanzo are also said to be eyeing the gubernatorial seat in 2022 polls.
