Former Lagdera MP Farah Maalim is Wiper Party leader Kalonzo Musyoka’s political point man in North Eastern region.
In 2017, Maalim ditched Raila Odinga’s ODM Party and joined Kalonzo Musyoka’s Wiper Party.
He unsuccessfully contested for the Garissa Township seat in the August 8, 2017 polls on a Wiper ticket.
He lost the parliamentary election to Aden Duale of Jubilee party.
Maalim, who is also Wiper Party deputy leader, has remained silent even as the 2022 succession politics starts to take shape.
The former National Assembly Deputy Speaker has not announced his next political move leaving his supporters guessing.
However, Maalim could be Kalonzo’s saviour in North Eastern come 2022.
Maalim is Kalonzo’s point man in the region and political analysts say that he could help the former Vice President get some votes in his presidential push.
“You cannot write off Farah Maalim when it comes to 2022 politics, he will be critical to Kalonzo’s campaigns,” Peter Ngure, a political analyst says.
In an interview on Tuesday, Ngure said that Maalim will decide on whether Kalonzo gets votes in the Jubilee-controlled region.
Kalonzo is eyeing to succeed President Uhuru Kenyatta in 2022 and has hinted on re-branding his Wiper party.
On the other hand, Maalim who recently buried his political hatchet with Aden Duale is silent on his next political step.
Sources, however, reveal that Maalim could make another stab for the Garissa parliamentary seat in 2022.
