After Interior CS Dr Fred Matiang'i announced that the Huduma Namba registration exercise will come to an end on May 17, a cleric from Gusii region wants an extension.
Kisii Anglican Church Bishop Kisii, John Omangi now wants the government to give an extension so as to enable those whose birth certificates have been delayed to register.
While addressing journalists on Wednesday in Kisii, Omangi complained that the office of the registrar of persons has not processed birth certificates applied for since last year.
"Some of us went looking for certificates last year in November and December for our children. Up to now, our children have not received them. When following the same we are told to be patient," said the Bishop.
He added: "This is a prerequisite for registration of Huduma Namba and the CS Fred Matiang'i said the exercise will come to an end on Saturday. We are asking Matiang'i to extend the exercise until the birth certificates are issued."
This comes shortly after Matiang'i declared early this week that no extra day will be added once the deadline of registration is reached.
Although many people from Kisii turned up to register, some have not been registered due to lack of birth certificates.
The Huduma Namba will help consolidate the identification cards, KRA pins, driving licenses, and passports which are contained in different databases into one source. This will help the government in planning.
