Senate Majority Leader Kipchumba Murkomen has sensationally claimed ODM leader Raila Odinga left for DR Congo silently to manage escalating fake gold scandal.
In a leaked audio, Raila's name and President Uhuru Kenyatta, were dragged to gold syndicate but major player in the scam, Zaheer Jhanda, has since absolved the two leaders.
But a team allied to Deputy President William Ruto, insists that the ODM leader should be investigated. Mr Odinga jetted to DR Congo on Saturday in his official capacity as AU Infrastructural Development boss.
"So He went to Congo to manage the situation while Junet & Wanga were busy planning with the suspects how to counter the narrative? Hapa iko fire. Sisi Wakenya tunataka kuona kamatakamata Friday ifanye ile kazi yake. We don’t want to be told we are protecting some handshake," he claimed.
DCI George Kinoti said Senator Moses Wetangula and Mr Jhanda were persons of interest in a scandal where a Dubai Royal lost close to Sh400 million.
But Suna East MP Junet Mohammed has vindicated Raila and Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang'i, who was also mentioned in the scandal, naming four MPs are being part of a group that approach Zaheer to drag Raila's name.
“ I have been approached by four Rift Valley MPs to implicate Raila and Matiangi “ Zahir today’s Standard Newspaper. The four MPs are Hon Sudi, Hon Caleb Kositany, Hon Koech and Gov sang. Alafu mnapiga Pang’anga Huko Kitale eti fulani alipanda Ndege," he said.
Despite being dragged into the scam by DP Ruto, Mr Odinga is yet to issue any formal statement. ODM Director of Communications Philip Etale dismissed claims that Mr Odinga was aware of the scandal.
