Gatundu South MP Moses Kuria still needs President Uhuru Kenyatta in his political manoeuvres and may end up losing relevance if he walks his own path, Prof Makau Mutua has said.

Kuria, first elected in 2013, has been President Uhuru Kenyatta's close confidant but the two have been reading from different scripts lately in matters pertaining country's leadership.

In a tweet, Mutua mocked Kuria, adding that he may find himself in an awkward position once Uhuru leaves power in 2022.

"I hope my good friend @HonMoses_Kuria has now realized that he’s nothing — a ZERO — without Uhuru Kenyatta. Man grew too big for his breeches [or diapers]," wrote Mutua.

Last year, Uhuru blasted Kuria for claiming that Central Kenya has been marginalised by Jubilee administration. Since then, the two are yet to be seen together in a public event.

And April, Kuria hit back at the president, questioning his trade deal with Uganda. Kenya had offered Uganda land to build a dry port in Naivasha.

"Kenya got a very bad trade deal from Uganda bilateral negotiations. Our farmers were left dead. But when Museveni went for a lecture at Kenyatta University, the students did not chant “Take back your sugar, milk, poultry, eggs, tiles & dry port” Instead they shouted “Bobi Wine!” the MP said in a tweet.

Kuria has often found himself on the wrong side of the law when defending President Uhuru Kenyatta. Already, he has declared intentions to run for Presidency in 2022.
