A day old baby has been rescued after he was allegedly dumped by a biological mother in Masinga, Machakos County.
The infant was found dumped at a nearby garden in Mikuyu on Sunday.
Itunduimuni assistant chief Agnes Kamene confirmed the incident.
Kamene said the little boy was found wrapped in a sack by the residents.
She said his umbilical cord was still attached to the placenta at the time of rescue.
Kamene said worms were coming out of the placenta.
"The baby is like a day old, he was found thrown in a 'shamba' belonging to one of the locals. I was notified and went to the scene to confirm," Kamene said.
She addressed the press in Masinga on Sunday.
The baby was rushed to Masinga Level 3 Hospital for medication.
"The doctors attended to the baby and dressed him, he's in good condition," she said.
Kamene said the infant's mother was still at large by the time of going to press.
She said police have, however, launched a manhunt on her.
"No one knows the mother, but I have a feeling she's still around. We will bring her to book," Kamene said.
Kamene condemned the act and urged women to desist from dumping babies after giving birth.
