Lugari MP Ayub Savula has scoffed at former Kakamega County Senator Boni Khalwale for defecting to the ruling Jubilee Party.
Savula now claims that Khalwale’s move is aimed at dividing the Luhya community ahead of the much-anticipated 2022 general election.
In a phone interview on Friday evening, the vocal MP accused Khalwale of disregarding the interests of the 'Mulembe' community for his own selfish interests.
“It is not a surprise to us because Boni Khalwale has been the Jubilee mole in Western Kenya since 2013,” the vocal second term Lugari legislator said.
Savula said that the Luhya community will not be divided insisting that time has come for them to ascend to the presidency.
“We will not allow selfish leaders to derail our focus for top leadership when the time comes,” the MP added.
Savula said that Khalwale’s support for Jubilee Party is meaningless, noting that the Luhya community will remain united moving forward.
He further said that the former Kakamega Senator has put the final nail to his political coffin by declaring support for Jubilee Party.
Khalwale officially defected to Jubilee Party on Friday and was received by Deputy President William Ruto.
The former senator's defection came after allegedly being summoned by the Moses Wetangula led Ford Kenya Party over his links with DP Ruto.
Khalwale lost bid for the Kakamega governor seat in 2017 and is eyeing to contest the same seat in the upcoming 2022 general election.
