For a while now, Governor John Nyagarama's dressing code has been subjected to public scrutiny with many of residents dismissing him.

It started with a trip to former Vice President Kalonzo Musyoka's Karen home then last week's impromptu visit to Bosamaro to condole with a prominent family.

But on Saturday, criticism escalated when the governor was photographed wearing a suit, necktie and open shoes when he ushered in Governor Wycliffe Oparanya.

"Let us not make a joke on someone's health. The governor is under medication and by avoiding shoes, it means he's adhering to doctors advise.

"He is unwell and we should not ridicule him. He has swollen limbs and legs thus the dressing code," said George Momanyi, his aide.

Mr Nyagarama, who is serving his second term on ODM party, was hospitalised in the US for two months from May over swollen limbs.

At 74, the governor's mobility is said to be a major challenge, forcing him to perform most tasks from his private residence, not far away from his offices.

His deputy, Amos Nyaribo, is also expected in the country on Tuesday after three months absence. He was in India hospital where he underwent major kidney operation.
